Circle Circle Presents DECONSTRUCTION OF A DRAG QUEEN, 4/7-21

Circle Circle Presents Deconstruction of a Drag Queen, written by Katherine Harroff in collaboration with members of the Drag Artist Performance Community of San Diego; directed by Katherine Harroff and choreographed by Anne Gehman & Anthony Diaz (Grace Towers). Opening April 6th 2012; show runs April 7th-21st 2012.

While Michael's mother fantasizes that her only son will grow-up to become a Doctor, Michael is busy trying on his sister's dresses and dancing to female pop artists of the 80's. The show takes audiences into the world of Stilettos, a one-stop gender-bending performance destination to join ringleader the Duchess Hunny Mustard as she puts on a production that unveils the crowning of their newest Queen. Based on the true story of local Drag Sensation Grace Towers.

"Deconstruction of a Drag Queen tells the timeless tale of forbidden love, but it isn't a love for another person that drives our main character to break all the rules that were set for his life, it's the love of this incredible art form. This play is dedicated to anyone that has had the strength to take risks in the name of love- and I am hopeful that it may inspire others to rise above the binds of intolerance to discover the diva within," said Katherine Harroff, Playwright of Deconstruction of a Drag Queen.

Harroff came to San Diego after obtaining her Master's Degree from Arizona State University where she studied in Performance, Directing, Community-Based Theatre, Theatre for Social Change, Theatre for Young Audiences, and Playwrighting. She has completed extensive training with the Siti Company in Saratoga, NY, and is certified in the Viewpoint/Suzuki methods. She has written over 20 produced devised Theatre Projects that have been staged in both Arizona and California including CCdd's productions of The Break-Up/Break-Down and Ragnarok. She recently helped the Playwrights Project of San Diego develop their "Telling Stories" program that allows foster youth create Plays from their life stories with the help of Drama Therapy, and Theatre for Social Change. Katherine founded Circle Circle dot dot.

PatRick Kelly's (Set Designer and Technical Director of CCdd) favorite credits include Ragnarok and The Break-Up/Break-Down with Circle Circle dot dot; Fences and History Boys with Cygnet Theater; As Much as you can with Diversionary, Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Shopping and F**king, Mending Monologues with Triad Productions;Christmas Is coming up town with Common Ground Theater; Ain't you heard Ira at Aldridge Players, Beauty and the Beast with Starlight; Dutchman Lynx; Angels In America, Honk, Rumors, and Twelfth Night all at SDSU. He has also appeared as Dr. Zoolittle for the San Diego Zoo and is an Emcee for San Diego Indie-fest. Patrick has a B.A. in Theater Performance from San Diego State University.

Brendan Cavalier (Stage Manager and Managing Director of CCdd) graduated from SDSU with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2006, and has been a working engineer in San Diego since then. He is also one of the founding and current members of Triad Productions est. 2007. His recent credits include Ragnarok andThe Break-up/Break-Down with Circle Circle dot dot, Crimes of the Heart directed by Katie Rodda at Scripps Ranch, The Country Club directed by Teri Brown at OnStage, Dog Sees God directed by Kym Pappas for Innermission Productions, The Last Days of Judus Iscariot directed by Steven Schmitz, and The Lonesome Westdirected by Adam Parker for Triad Productions.
