Broadway/San Diego Offers Open Captioned IN THE HEIGHTS Performance 8/1

BroadwaySan_Diego_Offers_Open_Captioned_IN_THE_HEIGHTS_Performance_20010101

BROADWAY/SAN DIEGO is introducing a new service for our loyal audience members ~ a special Open-Captioned Performance at the Sunday matinee of IN THE HEIGHTS, August 1 at 1PM! Open captioning is the instant translation of the spoken word of a performance into text with video image.

On-site captioning makes events such as conferences, live theatre and concerts accessible to Deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons. It is also beneficial for hearing patrons who might have missed a word or phrase, as well as those who speak English as a second language... or in this case, those who may not get the multi-ethnic jokes of the Washington Heights neighborhood the musical is set in! The caption screen will be placed house right, stage left. There is no special price for this, as the screen is viewable from almost all locations, but I do recommend patrons sit House Right for this service.

IN THE HEIGHTS National Tour Company on the Small Screen!
IN THE HEIGHTS has been all over TV screens and YouTube lately - here are links to the National Tour Company performing "96,000" to give you a brief taste of how muy caliente this show is!:

In The Heights, winner of four 2008 Tony Awards® and the 2008 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album, is coming to San Diego Civic Theatre, July 27 through August 1, 2010.

In The Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood - a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

In The Heights opened on Broadway to wide critical acclaim March 9, 2008. The Washington Post said In The Heights is "Pure Broadway. an evening of old-style, innocent pleasure" and Ben Brantley of The New York Times enthused In The Heights is "An Exuberant, Animated Shrine To The Importance Of Family Ties And Being Faithful To Where You Come From." In The Heights continues to play on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

In addition to winning the 2008 Tony Award® for Best Musical, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the show's creator, won the Tony Award® for Best Music and Lyrics; Andy Blankenbuehler won for Best Choreography; and Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman won for Best Orchestrations. The original cast recording won the 2008 Grammy Award® for Best Musical Show Album, and Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to produce a feature film based on the smash hit musical.

"In The Heights: Chasing Broadway Dreams," a "Great Performances" special chronicling the personal stories of composer/lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda and the Broadway cast of In The Heights in the months leading up to opening night, premiered on PBS stations across the country in May.

With a book by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award® nominee Quiara Alegría Hudes and conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda, In The Heights is directed by Joseph A. Callaway Award-winner and Tony Award® nominee Thomas Kail. The music arrangements are by Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman. In The Heights also features Tony® nominated scenic design (Anna Louizos), costumes (Paul Tazewell), lighting (Howell Binkley), and sound (ACME Sound Partners). In The Heights is produced by Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller, Jill Furman Willis, Sander Jacobs, Robyn Goodman/Walt Grossman, Peter Fine and Sonny Everett/Mike Skipper with associate producers Ruth Hendel and Harold Newman. www.intheheightsthemusical.com
