Broadway in Riverside/A Nederlander Presentation, recently announced its inaugural season of great theatre for the entire family at the Fox Performing Arts Center in the City of Riverside. The Nederlander Organization, the national producer and presenter of touring Broadway shows and events, has entered into a multi-year agreement with the Fox Performing Arts Center and its Operator/Manager, William P. Malone; under the aegis of Broadway in Riverside/A Nederlander Presentation - Carl Thompson, General Manager. The Fox Performing Arts Center is scheduled to open in January of 2010.

Kicking off the National Touring shows in February, 2010 will be America’s most beloved musical Annie. It will be followed in March by the groundbreaking Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice masterpiece Jesus Christ Superstar, with its original star Ted Neeley recreating his unforgettable performance. And Riverside denizens will be dancing in the aisles in April with the deliriously tuneful, multiple Tony Award®-winner Hairspray!

Nick Scandalios, Executive VP of Nederlander said, “We are thrilled to be on the forefront of this exciting new endeavor at the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside. We look forward to bringing an array of national touring musicals, plays, and live theatrical events to the area starting in 2010.” Broadway in Riverside General Manager, Carl Thompson, remarked “We are proud to be presenting at the Fox Performing Arts Center which I am sure is destined to become the crown jewel of downtown Riverside. I am certain that the Broadway touring productions will help to attract visitors to the area, enhance the existing arts offerings, and contribute to the local economy now and for years to come.” Fox Performing Arts Center Operator, William P. Malone states "Targeted programming for the venue is based on an effective mix of Theater, Music and Dance. With that objective in mind, the Broadway Inaugural Season announced is clearly indicative of the beginning of our forthcoming fabulous journey through the arts."

The 2010 Broadway in Riverside inaugural season includes:

February 2 - 7, 2010

Annie

Leapin’ lizards! The timeless tale of Little Orphan Annie is back, giving a whole new generation the chance to experience this classic musical about never giving up hope. Boasting one of Broadway’s most memorable scores, including “It’s the Hard-Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “N.Y.C.” and the ever-optimistic “Tomorrow,” Annie is a delightful theatrical experience for the entire family. Don’t miss this all-new production that Variety calls “a winner!” The Hollywood Reporter agrees “It’s a visual and lyrical treat for the whole family.” For more information, visit www.Annieontour.com.

Jesus Christ Superstar with Ted Neeley

Jesus Christ Superstar, the groundbreaking theatrical masterpiece by legendary writing team Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, and their first collaboration to be performed on the professional stage, is one of the most popular and enduring works ever created for the musical theatre. As relevant and timeless as ever, this rock opera vision of “the greatest story ever told” is perhaps more potent in today’s troubled world than when it was first produced. Now, this magnificent story, which earned five Tony Award® nominations, comes once again vividly to the stage with internationally beloved star Ted Neeley recreating his unforgettable performance (Golden Globe nominated in the Norman Jewison film of Superstar). Featuring such notable songs as “Superstar,” “Everything’s Alright” and “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the final seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Perpetually changing the face of musical theatre, Jesus Christ Superstar leaves audiences captivated by its power. For more information, visit www.thejcstour.com.

Hairspray

Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards®, will sweep Riverside away to 1960’s Baltimore in this mega-hit, piled bouffant-high with laughter and romance – and enough deliriously tuneful songs to fill a nonstop platter party. In Hairspray it's 1962—the '50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion—to dance. But can a plus-size trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her 'do? Only in Hairspray! Welcome to the '60s! For more information, visit www.Hairsprayontour.com.
